UCPH Spring Festival 2015 - the programme

Around 15,000 guests are expected to attend the festival. There will be 16 bands on three stages and a fire show

Save the date! Universitetsparken at Nørre Campus is set to transform into a huge party with concerts, performances and interesting lectures, and the best part is, it’s free for University of Copenhagen students and staff.

In the second year running the UCPH Spring Festival will take place Friday 8 May. A joint venture organised by Studenterhuset, the Student Council and UCPH, last year’s first successful festival encouraged the organisers.

”Last year was a success, and we have aimed at making this year’s festival even better. There is a bigger variety of acts in the program, because we wanted to make sure that there is something for everyone to see” says Alexander Thorvaldsen, chairman of the Student Council.

“The top acts are without a doubt S!VAS & Ukendt Kunstner and the legendary Danish band Love Shop, and we are really looking forward to welcoming them on stage’. ‘

Not just a party

Just like last year, the Spring Festival is packed with great concerts by known Danish acts. Lucy Love, Stine Bramsen, When Saints Go Machine and Vinnie Who are just some of the names, but the festival offers much more than just music.

The University Football finals will take place at the festival, the University Radio will broadcast directly from Nørre Campus, and you can experience the first ever joint performance of the Copenhagen Showband and five of the UCPH Choirs.

”One of the things that makes this festival special is the array of different activities and fun things to do during the day. The Student Council has worked hard to find the best lectures and events that bring something extraordinary to the festival. Be a part of the Copenhagen Science Slam, where the audience decides which of the 8 minute-presentations is the most entertaining, captivating and exciting one, or take part in the UCPH debating club’s International Debate-event on Surveillance”, says Jacob Ørum, General Manager of Studenterhuset.

Safety first

Depending on the weather, around 15 000 guests are expected to attend the festival. With 16 bands on three stages and a fire show organised by student union ‘Scientific Playgroup” ( Naturvidenskabelig Legestue ), this requires a lot of planning and safety. UCPH Campus Service (CAS) is in charge of the festival plaza setup as well as safety and security. Michael Dagø and Tommy Sillemann from CAS have been working on this year’s festival for almost a year.

”CAS has found even bigger tents for this year’s festival, so everybody should be able to keep dry even if it rains, and they have hired ConCom, who does security at Roskilde Festival. They have been excellent at listening to our input and ideas; the festival really is a co-creation between UCPH staff and the student organisations. I am especially happy and impressed that almost 300 students and staff now have volunteered to make this such a special event. It shows that the UCPH population really wants to participate in creating a great university”, says Jacob Ørum.

”We would also like to thank UCPH and our sponsor Carlsberg. It is very unique for a Danish University to host a festival of this magnitude,” he adds.
